Son Spurs on a riot

Heung-Ming Son’s hat trick inspired a 6-0 victory for Tottenham against Millwall in the  quarter final of the FA Cup.

Spurs ran riot with a number of superb finishes and looked comfortable all game.

The home side started in dominant fashion with four attempts on goal in the opening six minutes, signalling a potentially long afternoon for visitors Millwall. The only damper was top scorer Harry Kane limping off in the opening exchanges with an ankle injury.

Resilience from the visitors was paying dividend despite Spurs’ control of the game. Deli Alli continued the home sides pressure with a header saved by Millwall keeper’ Thomas King, before Webster cleared. Moments later Alli again caused danger with a penalty shout after a delicate touch and turn before being dragged to the floor by Tony Craig.

Millwall had their only chance of the half when Lee Gregory held the ball up, allowing Steve Morison a chance from 30yards only to side foot over the bar.

Tottenham finally broke the deadlock on 31 minutes when substitute Christian Erisken superbly volleyed home a Alli chested pass. Victor Wanyama nearly made it two four minutes later, when his header landed on the crossbar.

However, it was soon two when Heung-Min Son curled a left footed shot from the edge of the box into the side netting. Giving Tottenham breathing space going into half time.

10 minutes after the break, Son scored his second volleying home, from a Kieran Trippier lofted cross from just over the half way line. Millwall replied with their best chance of the match with Jed Wallace slashing high and wide at the near post from a cutted back pass.

The visitors pressure didn’t last long though, with a eye of the needle through ball in the penalty box from Erisken allowing Alli a simple tap in at the back post. Spurs’ free scoring continued when subsitute Vincent Janseen’s side footed finish made it 4-0 10minutes from time. The Dutch international could’ve got his second career Spurs gold from open play when he planted a free header straight into the arms of King. In added time, Son clinched his hat-trick volleying, a Ben Davies cross, straight at King only for the keeper to let the ball slip through his legs.

Tottenham strolled into the Semi Final and will await a tough draw in the next round at Wembley. Millwall didn’t register a shot on target and looked second best all game, having more important domestic matters at hand to concentrate on now.
