Weekend Preview: Everton vs Man United

Manchester United will not be happy with where they sit in the league, but a crushing reality is they look out of the title race. Everton are where they expect to be, despite a poor run of form with one win in five.

Lukaku has only scored three goals again Man United in his career.

The goals have dried up for Romelu Lukaku who has only manged one in his last five, and seems the only goal threat Everton have. Having scored seven of the Toffees 16 goals so far, it shows too much pressure is on the 23-year-old’s shoulders to produce. Ross Barkley is second top scorer at the club with two, showing the clear problem that if Lukuku doesnt score its unlikely the team are going to get a result.

Man United’s fortunes have been up and down from week to week. One win in five looks pleak for Mourinho’s men, but performances have simply lacked goals. Zlatan Ibrahimovic may be top scorer at the club with seven, yet could have easily doubled that tally so far this season.

United’s line up is always an uncertainty with the possibility of Marouane Fellani coming in or Henrik Mkhitaryan getting his chance. Whether Mourinho will decide a defensive line up is unlikely as he will see this as a chance for three points and eradicate last weeks home draw with West Ham. It is likely Paul Pogba will remain in the more advanced role that he played in United last away victory at Swansea and could result in the same rewards.

Everton do have defence inconsistencies yet have conceded the same amount of goals as their opponents. Making for what seems an even affair. The pace of Everton on the counter attack could be what sways the game as United seem slow in their play this year with Ibrahimovic not being the fastest player, making them vulnerable to Everton wingers Yannick Bolasie and Aaron Lennon.

The forms of the clubs suggests it’ll be a draw, the defensive record suggests it’ll be a draw and the lack of goal scoring threat of late suggests it’ll be a draw. Even though both teams could easily sneak a narrow victory the statistics speak otherwise.

Prediction: 1-1 Draw
